13 December 2018 – The Pesenti Foundation Conference “MAJOR HAZARDS. MORE AND MORE OF AN EMERGENCY. New businesses to find new technical and organizational answers. The challenge of start-ups as an innovative response to new needs” was held today at the premises of Corriere della Sera Foundation.
Guest speakers included Lorenzo Allevi, Co-founder and AD of Oltre Venture, Alvise Biffi, President of Lombardy’s Federation of Small Businesses, Donato Masciandaro, Full Professor at Bocconi University, Carlo Pesenti, President of the Pesenti Foundation, Titti Postiglione, expert on Major Hazards and Their Management. The meeting was moderated by Corriere Economia editor-in-chief Nicola Saldutti.
Natural disasters and hydrogeological hazards seem to be becoming more frequent and more severe. They put people’s lives at risk and result in heavy economic and social costs to affected communities.
It is in this context that the SHaReD “Social Hazards Resilience in Disasters” project was born, sponsored by the Pesenti Foundation. As part of the SpeedMiUp initiative promoted by Bocconi University and Milan Chamber of Commerce, the project aims at sustaining the creation and growth of innovative start-ups in the field of natural disaster management, proposing new ideas in terms of Prediction, Prevention, and Preparedness management, and post-emergency assistance.
But what is the current Italian and EU-wide framework? Are there examples of interstate “insurance” schemes and risk sharing? What are the key data elements the new generations are asked to find innovative answers to? And what is the role that Foundations, Universities and Institutions can play in this context?
