Starting from the “San Sebastiano” of the Carrara Academy, the exhibition – edited by M. Cristina Rodeschini, Emanuela Daffra and Giacinto Di Pietrantonio – tells the formation of the master urbins, his activity and his fortune.

Precious Raffaello works borrowed from the most important museums in the world, including the National Gallery of London, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin – Gemäldegalerie Berlin, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow and the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, will talk with great masters from the 1950s to the present.

Over twenty of Raffaello’s original works, works by Memling, Berruguete, Perugino, Pintoricchio, Signorelli, to name a few, rigorously reconstruct a spectacular cultural context of very high culture, offering the visitor an exciting journey that brings Raffaello to the highest dimension of the myth.

The exhibition path includes a “corpus” chosen from works of the twentieth century and the 21st century realized by the artists who have bestowed their inheritance. The influences of the artist from Urbino are, in fact, found in the “après” of Luigi Ontani, Salvo and Francesco Vezzoli, in the stroke of Pablo Picasso, in the pictorial spell of classical mold by Giorgio de Chirico and Antonio Donghi, in the celebratory figuration of Carlo Maria Mariani, in the photographic transposition of Vanessa Beecroft’s performances and in the digital photographs by Mariella Bettineschi.

And again, in Christo’s “packaged” works, in female figures portrayed by Omar Galliani, in formal research combined with the enigma by Pietro Roccasalva and in works by three conceptual artists who will dialogue with Sanzio’s work in an excursus through the centuries: Ettore Spalletti, capable of owning the universal intimacy that has crossed the history of art; Luciano Fabro, who evokes one of Raffaello’s masterpieces, and Giulio Paolini, who presents an unpublished work created right from “San Sebastiano”.
