A reflection on art based on modern studies of psychoanalysis, to place the emphasis on the great challenge facing contemporary painting: is it possible to depict the unrepresentable, giving a face to the absolute? The work of art awakens us from the sleep of the ordinary reality and confronts us with the “mystery of things”. Art not as an escape, nor a shelter from the realities of life and death, but as a fascinating way to engage with its otherness.

Massimo Recalcati is one of the most famous psychoanalysts in Italy. His studies have become a steady and renowned educational landmark. In his essays he explores and analyzes the dynamics of the psyche, the social, political and mass unrest, the transformations of the contemporary world, the changing father-child relationships.
