AID FOR SRI LANKA: A FUTURE FOR CHILDREN – INAUGURATION OF THE VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE

The inauguration of the vocational training centre took place on 5 June in Metyiagane – Sri Lanka – thanks to the support of the Pesenti Foundation and the fund raising campaign organized right after the 2004 tsunami.

Giovanni Giavazzi, President of Fondazione Cav. Lav. Carlo Pesenti, H.E. Raffaele Cardinal Farina, the Salesians’ Rector Major Pascual D.Chavez Villanueva, the Vicar General Adriano Bregolin and Gennaro Guala, who was in charge of the realisation of the whole project, took part to the opening ceremony.

The Centre is located in the western region of the island, at a distance from the coast and 55 km northeast of the city of Negombo.
Thanks to this project, called “Aid for Sri Lanka: a future for children“, the Vocational Training Centre has been built with laboratories, lodgings and refectory that can accommodate 200 youngsters.
It will be a technical vocational training school, focusing mainly on the construction trade, which aims to train resources to meet the predictably high demand for local infrastructures and dwellings, and to possibly rely on the long-standing experience that Italcementi Group has gained in the field.
