Pesenti Foundation and the Friends of Pediatrics

The “Amici della Pediatria” (literally Friends of Pediatrics) non-profit association was founded in 1990 at the Pediatrics Department of the United Hospitals of Bergamo, with the aim of supporting and integrating the public health service to improve the quality of care for ill children and their families.

Pope John XXIII Bergamo Hospital, though a highly specialized health center of national importance, is not a university teaching hospital and has no residents/fellows.

In this context, the initiative of the “Amici della Pediatria” Association aimed to sponsor Pediatric residency programs and conform to the corresponding teaching hospitals.

Residents are selected by a Committee comprising faculty members and the director of the Bergamo Hospital Pediatrics Department and then appointed to their training program.

In 2014, on its 25th anniversary, the “Amici della Pediatria” Association established a 5-year PEDIATRIC RESIDENCY SCHOLARSHIP in honor of the founders Mrs. Franca Natta Pesenti and Mr. Cesare Angelelli.

Mrs. Franca Natta Pesenti, former honorary president of the “Amici della Pediatria” Association, sincerely embraced and enthusiastically supported the “scholarship program” as a fundamental commitment to help deserving students benefit from higher education.

Mr.Cesare Angelelli, former Hospital School teacher, then a volunteer and president of the association, promoted this project in memory of his wife.

The Pesenti Foundation is proud to support this project and provide young professionals with a better chance to be successful in the working environment with all its complexities and unknowns. A concrete act of solidarity and empathy focused on health and wellbeing of children and their families and a provision of appropriate and qualified medical and psychological assistance.
